About the Artist

My name is Karli Hazlett and for my entire life I have been driven to create artwork in some form or another. Over the years I have been inspired by many different forms of art and enjoy exploring all the different ways that I can create art. Recently, I have been obsessed with creating pyrography pieces of work. Pyrography is the method of art in which a hot metal pen burns into wood to make marks. This type of artwork can be very challenging as it is difficult to draw fine lines and control the depth of the burn into the piece of wood. I have been creating pyrography pieces of artwork since 2015 and I still enjoy it very much. I also enjoy painting with acrylics on canvas, charcoals, or pastels. Over the years I do believe that pyrography has become my niche.

In addition to my creative side I am also a full time stay a home mom and a wife. I love to teach my children how to get in touch with their creative side. I also have a deep love for the outdoors and enjoy gardening, foraging, and hiking. Mushroom hunting is another passion of mine that I enjoy spending time on.

Life hasn't always been easy and beautiful for me. I take my struggles in stride and always bounce back stronger than before. In 2021 I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation type 1 and this diagnosis completely changed my life. I suffered with symptoms from this birth defect for several years. My symptoms were occipital headaches, dizziness, ear pain, vision impairment, and fine motor skill impairment. When I was finally diagnosed in 2021 it was recommended that I undergo decompressive sub-occipital craniectomy and cervical laminectomy (in other words brain surgery on my cerebellum). In August of 2021 I had the brain surgery and it forever changed my life for the better. Initially recovery was difficult, but today I feel like my quality of life has been restored along with my symptoms being minimized. Additionally, this has greatly impacted my artistic abilities and enabled me to create pieces of art with ease and more control over my fine motor skills.
